I took this photo on a warm cloudy day when the light was soft and pretty. I was inspired by the juxtaposition of my barefoot toddler walking down the gravel driveway in a dress, while carrying a toy truck. I knew I wanted this image to be black and white, so I waited until they stepped into the sun (leaving me a shaded/darker background) before pressing the shutter. After importing the image to Lightroom and converting to black + white the background is significantly darker, allowing my subject to stand out.
