To finish off world breastfeeding week I am sharing a little bit about my personal breastfeeding journey.
I still remember the very first time I breastfed in public, and what a scary, stressful moment that was. I was sitting inside a local cafe with my husband, in-laws, and new baby. She was probably about 6 weeks at the time and wouldn’t stop crying. I tried everything to get her to calm down and I felt like the whole restaurant was staring at me. I remember trying to get her latched under a cover, fighting off tears myself. Finally, out of despair, I threw off the cover and breastfed my baby…and guess what, she stopped crying. On our way home, my husband and I discussed nursing in public. I told him I didn’t think I wanted to use a cover and that I wanted to feel comfortable nursing my baby any time, any place. He agreed! It took some courage and practice but before long nursing in public was equivalent to nursing at home to me. Not a thought was given; the way it should be. #thisisnormal #PBAP2014
